Discussing my MTD 535 with Michael Tobias...

Here's the second of three video blogs compiled from my recent hang with bass builder extraordinaire Michael Tobias!

This episode features my main 535, #252, that I acquired back in 1997. It's been my primary bass ever since...what an AMAZING instrument.

If you haven't had a chance to check out the MTD (Michael Tobias Design) basses yet, I definitely encourage you to do anything you can to do so! Visit MTD at www.mtdbass.com...

Norm, enjoying the new blog. I look forward to each new post. Wish I had the money (and talent) to justify an MTD bass as they look pretty sweet.

Here's a question for you that maybe could make it's way into a new post. How do approach your tonal settings on the bass when playing different styles of music? Playing bass on a worship team often means playing different styles (rock, country, smooth jazz, etc.) sometimes all within the same set. I find that a tone that I might use in a smooth jazz type song doesn't work as well for a straight up rock song. What are some of the general tonal settings that you prefer for different styles? Do you dial in your tone strictly from the use of onboard eq / pickup selection?

I hope this an appropriate place for this type of question (as opposed to your website). Forgive me if it's not.

Hi Norm, I know you from TJ Hill. Apparently you live right up the hill from me...

I have a bass guitar I either need to learn to play or sell it. My son lost interest in it :(

Please if you ever come to the United Kingdom let me know..We would love to have you play and share your gift of playing here.. I had the privilage to see Adam Nitti back 2006 at the Bass Day 2006 U.K. It would be good to have you come and play at one of the Bass day U.K concerts.
